Directions & Transportation

Getting to The Retreat at Thunder Ridge is really quite simple, whether you choose to drive to Durango, or to fly into the Durango/La Plata County Airport (DRO). We are serviced from either Denver (DEN), by United Airlines (www.united.com) or Frontier Airlines (www.frontierairlines.com), or from Phoenix (PHX), by US Airways (www.usairways.com).

If you choose to fly, we can either pick you up at the airport, and shuttle you to the lodge, or, as many prefer for a little more “transportation freedom”, you may rent a vehicle at the airport. Most major rental companies are represented there. Directions to the lodge from the airport are written below, or you may MapQuest them.

Driving to Durango can be a fun and scenic trip from most locations, and directions to the lodge, once you arrive in Durango, are also written below.

From the City of Durango (approx. 25-minutes)

Take County Road 240 (also called Florida Road, pronounced “Floreeda” for some reason?) northeast from town for approximately 14 ½-miles to Helen’s Store (a yellow building on your right with a Blue & White sign that says “Helen’s Store”) and turn right there, crossing the Florida River. After crossing the river, you’ll wind uphill through some S-turns until you crest the hill and begin to descend. You’ll immediately see a large bank of mail boxes on your right, and about 40-yards past those, also on your right, you’ll see a sign that says “The Webb’s” and our address, “14688 CR 240”. You will have traveled approximately 7-tenths of a mile from Helen’s Store. Turn right onto our paved driveway, and follow it approximately ½ - mile up the hill to the lodge. Bear right on the driveway when you reach the lodge and ring the doorbell at the front door…

From Durango/La Plata County Airport (approx. 30-minutes)

Follow “Airport Way” (County Road 309) north from the airport until it “dead ends” into County Road 172, which is about 1-mile. Turn left and follow County Road 172 approximately 5 ½-miles to the first light controlled intersection you come to, which will be the intersection of County Road 172 and Hwy 160. Proceed straight through the intersection (you’ll be going North) and County Road 172 will become County Road 234, though it is still the same road. Follow County Road 234 North for approximately 6-miles, where you will once again dead end, this time into County Road 240 (also called Florida Road, pronounced “Floreeda” for some reason?). Take a right onto County Road 240, and follow that road for approximately 8-miles to Helen’s Store (a yellow building on your right with a Blue & White sign that says “Helen’s Store”) and turn right there, crossing the Florida River.
